The men's soccer team returns seven starters and 13 letterwinners from last season's squad which advanced to its sixth consecutive America East title game. Binghamton last won the America East title in 2006. The Bearcats open up the 2009 season at home against Syracuse on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.

Head Men's Soccer Coach Paul Marco

"Each year presents itself with new challenges. This year is a little different from normal in that we graduated a very large group of players. I think if anything, the bar has been raised a little bit higher. We had our best day on the track on Saturday in the morning with our fitness. Our returning players were absolutely fantastic. As soon as our younger guys realize what it means to be a Bearcat, we will be pretty good."

"Our biggest challenge this year is going to be putting all of the pieces together. When you have a lot of new players, sometimes the challenge is getting the same effort and intensity from all of those new players every day."

"We haven't really talked past preseason. Right now, all of our efforts are going towards Syracuse (season opener on Sept. 1) so I will have a better grasp where I think our team can get to at a later time."

Senior goalkeeper Jason Stenta

"Going into the summer, a lot was expected of the returners. We had to set a good standard and the fitness test for everybody was tough. If you don't pass the fitness test, you don't play, so everyone knew what was expected."

"If we have to win a lot of low scoring games, that is fine with me. A win is a win. Two years ago, we won our first five games 1-0. We are used to defending late in the game. Our defenders do a great job at eliminating shots."

Senior back Liam Carson

"Losing the title game last season didn't stick with us for too long. We just had to pick ourselves up and get on with it. We need to come together as a unit with so many guys having graduated last year. That will happen during preseason."

"On a personal note, it is great for me to be playing again. I missed last season because of an injury and am really looking forward to this year."

Senior midfielder Chris Terry

"The first couple of days of preseason are always tough and it is (difficult) to tell how things are going just two days in. But everyone is working hard. Everyone is on the same page so hopefully we can just keep up the progress and move forward."

"For having so many new players, I think our team chemistry is very good so far. It's always good to have some fun when you are working hard. It's a good balance we have between guys putting in the work and enjoying ourselves. That is what the game is about at the end of the day."

Senior back Kyle Kucharski

"With a big senior class last year, now that those guys are gone, us seniors are expected to have a much bigger role on the team. Nothing is new really. We still have the same expectations but for our class, we fill that leadership role a little more."

"Coming in my freshman year, we won the America East Tournament. The last two years, we unfortunately did not do that. That is the expectation--to get back to the finals and hopefully (to) the NCAA Tournament. We are working hard, even now in just the third day of preseason, towards that goal."
