VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior back Adam
Chavez (Endicott, N.Y.) has joined the Richmond Kickers of
the United Soccer League (USL). Having concluded a standout career
for the Bearcats, Chavez will make his USL debut when the kickers
open their 2008 slate on April 19 at home against the Western
Massachusetts Pioneers.
Adam has started in all
of our pre-season matches so far including a 3-0 win over D.C.
United of MLS (Major League Soccer)," Richmond Kickers Vice
President Leigh Cowlishaw said. "He has shown good composure
on the ball and will no doubt bring a strong physical presence
to our back line. Although competition will be fierce we expect
Adam to compete immediately for a starting position this season."
Chavez was a two-time All-Northeast Region selection at Binghamton,
having been named to the first team in 2007 and second-team in
2006. He was also the 2007 America East Conference Defender of
the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors as a junior
and senior. In the classroom, Chavez was named a 2007 NSCAA Scholar
All-American as well as the America East Fall Academic Squad.
"Adam has been working hard in preparation for his professional
début," Binghamton head coach Paul Marco said. "Richmond
has a great winning tradition and I'm sure competition will be
extremely high but he has shown he can compete with the best
of them. We wish him all the best as he begins hopefully his
first of many successful years as a pro."
Binghamton won the America East Conference title in Chavez's
junior year and was the runner up the other three seasons. The
Bearcats also won the America East regular season title the past
two seasons.
