Binghamton men's soccer defeats Coastal Carolina 1-0, wins CC/adidas Tournament

Box score

CONWAY, S.C.-- Junior midfielder Ibrahim Yusif (Spring Valley, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half, leading Binghamton (1-0-1) to a 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina (1-1) in the final game of the Coastal Carolina/adidas Tournament. The win gives the Bearcats the tournament title.

"I told our coaching staff that I would be delighted to come out of this weekend with four points," head coach Paul Marco said. "We beat a very good program tonight. It was a great night for us."

Yusif, who recently transfered from Canisius College, took a cross from senior back Ryan Pierce (Cobleskill, N.Y.) and fired it into the lower-right corner at the 70:17 mark of the game.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Bertoni (Owego, N.Y.) made three saves in recording his first collegiate shutout.

Coastal Carolina came on strong towards the end of the game and wound up outshooting Binghamton 11-10. Still, the Bearcats managed to hold on for the win.

Yusif, junior midfielder Kyle Antos (Endicott, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Adam Chavez (Endicott, N.Y.) and freshman back Barry Neville (Glascow, Scotland) were named to the all-tournament. There was no tournament MVP announced.

Binghamton opens its home slate on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game against St. Joseph's at West Gym Field.
