Binghamton men's soccer wins 1-0 at Cornell
VESTAL, N.Y.-Junior forward Cameron Keith scored in the 63rd minute, leading Binghamton (5-1-3) to a 1-0 win at Cornell (1-6-0) in non-conference men's soccer action on Friday evening. With the victory, the Bearcats are now unbeaten in their last eight games and have recorded five shutouts this season.
"I thought it was a very close game," head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought Cornell was quite good tonight. They moved the ball very well. We are very happy with the win. We played some very good and entertaining soccer tonight."
After a scoreless first half, Keith's goal took place when senior back Mark Wood and freshman midfielder Ryan Walter got the ball inside the box. The ball was loose until Keith banged it home from eight yards out.
Keith now has a team-high three goals (all game winners) this season. In two career games against the Big Red, he has scored all four of the Bearcats' goals.
Junior goalkeeper Jason Stenta made a pair of saves, including one from close range in the first half, to record his 25th career shutout. The ties the all-time program record set by Adam Napell (1986-89).
Up next, the Bearcats head to Maryland on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for a game against the No. 2 ranked Terps. On Friday, Maryland lost 4-2 to top-ranked and defending national champion Wake Forest.
