Binghamton men's soccer opens season with 1-1 tie against Furman
Antos ties the game with six seconds left on a header
CONWAY, S.C.--Binghamton University junior midfielder Kyle Antos (Endicott, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal with six seconds left in the second half to send the game into overtime as the men's soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2005 season with 1-1 tie to Furman (0-0-1) in the Costal Carolina/ adidas Invitational at CCU Soccer Field on Thursday evening. The Bearcats played to a tie in 15 games during the previous two seasons.
In first half at the 28:21 mark, Furman freshman Shea Salinas scored on a cross in front of the net to put the Paladins up 1-0. With six seconds left in regulation sophomore midfielder Adam Chavez (Endicott, N.Y.) crossed the ball from the left side of the goal to Antos, who headed it in for the final goal of the game.
"I was very pleased with the boys effort today," head coach Paul Marco said. "The guys did very well in the second half. They looked even better in overtime, just were not able to put it away."
Junior goalkeeper Ryan Bertoni (Owego, N.Y.) made 4 saves and only allowed one goal in his first collegiate start in goal over 110 minutes.
The Bearcats have their second game of the Costal Carolina/ adidas Invitational at CCU Soccer Field on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against host Coastal Carolina.
