Bearcats fall to Marist 3-2 in overtime
Vestal, N.Y. Junior midfielder Chris Zitkevit scored 6:28
into the first sudden death overtime period, leading Marist (3-1)
to a 3-2 win over host Binghamton.
Zitkevits game-winner came off a pass from Joseph Crespo,
who fed him the ball right in front of the goal. He then shot
the ball past two Bearcat defenders to seal the win.
It appeared as if Binghamton would notch its first victory of
the season, as it clung to a 2-1 lead with two minutes remaining
in the second half. It was then, however, that Marist senior
forward Steven Murk tied the game up when he took a loose ball
in front of the Binghamton goal and fired in the net with just
1:45 to play.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead at half on a goal by junior forward
Davide Di Genova (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./ John Jay), who took
a pass from junior midfielder George Loebrich (Katonah, N.Y./
Somers) and lifted the ball over the Marist goalkeeper at the
13:47 mark.
Marist came out strong in the second half, tying the game up
on a goal by senior midfielder Joshua Van, who fired a long shot
from midfield into the net at the 58:48 mark. The Bearcats recaptured
the lead at the 71:03 mark as junior forward Ron Sanon (Woodmere,
N.Y./ Lawrence) dribbled the ball from midfield and fired a shot
past the Marist goalkeeper.
Binghamtons next game is Tuesday at 4 p.m. at home against
Stony Brook.
