Binghamton men's soccer defeats Hartford 1-0
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Senior midfielder Justin Leskow scored in the 52nd minute, leading Binghamton (7-3-3, 2-1-0 AE) to a 1-0 win over Hartford (7-3-3, 3-1-0 AE) in an America East Conference men's soccer game on Wednesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The victory was the Bearcats' second conference triumph in the past three outings.
"Having to play Hartford, who was 3-0 in conference play, was a difficult match for us," head coach Paul Marco said. "We are pleased with the outcome and the performance of our players today was very good against a very good team."
Leskow, who now has two goals in the last three games, found himself in the right place at the right time to make the decisive play of the game. Junior back Kyle Kucharski fired a long cross toward the goal and Hartford goalkeeper Luke Cintrini was unable to make a clean catch. The ball came loose and standing on the doorstep was Leskow who banged it into the net.
Each team had 11 shots on goal for the game. Junior goalkeeper Jason Stenta made five saves to record his seventh shutout of the season as well as the 27th of his career.
Binghamton continues its home stand when it faces Vermont on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game, which is a rematch of the past two conference finals, will be aired locally by Time Warner Cable.
