soccer adds Matt Kristek to incoming class
VESTAL, N.Y. -- The
Binghamton men's soccer team has announced that Matt Kristek
(Vestal, N.Y.), a senior midfielder from nearby Vestal High School,
has committed to joining the program this coming fall.
Kristek, who scored 38 goals
in 2007, led the Golden Bears to the Class AA state championship.
In the finals against Webster Thomas on Nov. 17, he recorded
a hat trick in the 4-2 win and was named the Class AA State Tournament
At the conclusion of his senior season, Kristek received numerous
honors. He was named a NSCAA/adidas High School All-American
and was also selected to the All-Region squad. Closer to home,
Kristek was a first team New York State Sports Writers Association
(NYSSWA) All-State pick.
"We are delighted that Matt has decided to follow in the
footsteps of other top local players and join our program,"
head coach Paul Marco said. "He has been a part of our club
program (B.C. United Fusion) the past four years and has a knack
for finding the back of the net. The challenge for him will be
to become physically fit to compete at the next level."
Kristek joins what Marco calls a "very competitive recruiting
class" for the coming fall. A total of nine new players
are expected when preseason begins in August.
Binghamton went 14-6-0 in 2007, won the America East regular
season title for the second year in a row and advanced to its
fifth consecutive conference championship game.
