Bearcats fall at Long Island, 1-0

Box Score

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Despite battling LIU (2-2) even for most of the game, the Binghamton Bearcats (1-3) fell 1-0 to the Blackbirds in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon. The game was scoreless until the 69th minute, when Long Island’s Andreas Stark took a perfect pass and netted the game winner.

“It was a pretty physical game,” said head coach Paul Marco. “Our guys played very well and either team could have gotten the win.”

The Bearcats were held to just three shots on the game, and have been held to just three goals in their first four games. Ian Wendel (Sparta, N.J.) and Matt Nolan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) shared duties in goal, with Wendel recording a save in the first half.

“Although it isn’t the result we were looking for, our performance today is something we can build on,” Marco said.

The Bearcats return to action on the road Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. showdown with former Atlantic Soccer Conference rival Philadelphia. The team’s next home game is on September 22 against Buffalo at 1 p.m.
