settle for 0-0 tie with Maine
VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton men's soccer team (9-2-5, 3-1-3 AE) extended its unbeaten streak to nine games by battling Maine (6-7-3, 2-3-2 AE) to a 0-0 deadlock in an America East Conference soccer game at West Gym Field on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats have gone 5-0-4 during the past nine games, marking its longest unbeaten run since going 12-0-0 during a 12-game stretch in the 1989 season.
In addition, Binghamton broke the school record by posting its 12th shutout of the season. The old record of 11 shutouts was set by the 1984 team and tied by the 1986 squad.
Binghamton outshot the visiting Black Bears 17-8, including a 9-1 margin in the first half. Still, the Bearcats were unable to find the back of the net.
"We are disappointed," head coach Paul Marco said. "Our defense had a another good effort but on offense, we did not take advantage of our opportunities."
Sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Gonet (Refrewshire, Scotland/Langbank) recorded four saves in posting his 12th shutout of the season. That extends his single season school record.
Binghamton hits the road for Vermont where they'll play a 2 p.m. game on Wednesday.
