VESTAL, N.Y.--The preseason accolades keep coming in for the men's soccer team as the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) has released it preseason poll. The Bearcats, who finished last season ranked No. 26 among NCAA Division I teams, are ranked No. 22 in the first NSCAA/adidas poll of the year.
Earlier in the summer, College Soccer News also ranked the Bearcats No. 22 in its Division I preseason poll. In addition, Binghamton is the preseason pick to repeat as America East Conference champions.
"Being nationally-ranked in both preseason polls is helping (people) to recognize all of our hard work and committment," head coach Paul Marco said. "We are excited to start the season and are working hard to finish the season still being ranked in both polls."
The Bearcats have been holding two-a-day training sessions since last Monday. In preseason action last Friday, Binghamton defeated Colgate 3-2 as senior forward Stephen Bruce (Buckie, Scotland) scored twice and senior midfielder Charles Darkwah (Toronto, Ontario) netted the other goal.
Binghamton finished the 2003 campaign with a 12-3-7 record, won the America East Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Bearcats kick off the regular season at Marist on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
