men's soccer picked second in America East preseason poll

VESTAL, N.Y.-- For the second year in a row, the Binghamton men's
soccer team has been picked to finish second in the America East
Conference. The Bearcats, who in 2008 advanced to the conference
finals for the sixth consecutive year, rank behind only defending
champion Boston University. The Terriers were the unanimous pick
to retain the title. The voting was done by the eight head coaches.
Teams were not allowed to vote for themselves.
Binghamton and Boston University have combined to win four of
the last six America East Conference titles. The Terriers defeated
the Bearcats in the 2004 finals as well. Binghamton, however,
defeated Boston in the 2006 semifinals en route to its most recent
Vermont and Albany came in third and fourth respectively in the
preseason poll. The Catamounts won the title in 2007 while the
Great Danes lost to Binghamton in the semifinals last year.
Hartford, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and UMBC rounded out the
Boston University garnered all seven possible first-place votes.
Albany earned the other one.
Binghamton kicks off its season at home against Syracuse on Tuesday,
Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $5, groups of 20 or
more can be admitted at $3 per ticket and Binghamton undergraduate
students get in free with their ID. Tickets can be purchased
through the Binghamton Athletic Website (www.bubearcats.com)
or at the the Events Center box office (777-6004) starting Monday,
August 24 at noon.
