Binghamton men's soccer picked second in America East preseason poll

America East Conference Release

VESTAL, N.Y.-- For the second year in a row, the Binghamton men's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the America East Conference. The Bearcats, who in 2008 advanced to the conference finals for the sixth consecutive year, rank behind only defending champion Boston University. The Terriers were the unanimous pick to retain the title. The voting was done by the eight head coaches. Teams were not allowed to vote for themselves.

Binghamton and Boston University have combined to win four of the last six America East Conference titles. The Terriers defeated the Bearcats in the 2004 finals as well. Binghamton, however, defeated Boston in the 2006 semifinals en route to its most recent conference championship.

Vermont and Albany came in third and fourth respectively in the preseason poll. The Catamounts won the title in 2007 while the Great Danes lost to Binghamton in the semifinals last year.

Hartford, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and UMBC rounded out the preseason poll.

Boston University garnered all seven possible first-place votes. Albany earned the other one.
