Binghamton men's soccer settles for 1-1 tie against Rhode Island

Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman forward Jake Keegan scored his second goal of the season, but Binghamton (5-4-1) settled for a 1-1 tie against Rhode Island (3-5-1) before a sold-out crowd of 2,604 fans at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday night. The crowd was a facility record and the second-ever sellout in the three-year history of the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Down 1-0, Keegan finished off a cross from senior back Kyle Kucharski in the 59th minute of the game. He headed the ball into the left corner of the net. For Kucharski, it marked his team-high fifth assist of the year.

Ten minutes earlier, Rhode Island broke out on top on an unassisted goal by Kevin Shaw in the 49th minute. It was his first goal of the year.

Binghamton outshot Rhode Island 17-12 but could not get the game winner down the stretch. The Bearcats hit the crossbar once in each half.

Binghamton opens America East play against Albany on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
