Bearcats sign New York high school standout

Vestal, N.Y. — The Binghamton men’s soccer team has received a national letter of intent from high school standout John Sideris (Wynantskill, N.Y.), a midfielder from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, N.Y. He will join the Bearcats for the 2002 season.

Sideris finished up an outstanding high school career this past fall, having earned first-team, all-state honors as a senior. He was also a two-time Class A Region 2 pick and was twice named to the All-Area teams of the Albany Times Union and the Troy Record. In addition, Sideris was a gold medalist at the 2001 Empire State Games.

“We are real excited about our first New York signing,” said Binghamton head coach Paul Marco. “John is a player with tremendous competitiveness and he will add creativity to our attack.”

Sideris is the second player to sign with Binghamton this week. He joins junior college transfer Mike Hibbert (Louisburgh, N.C.), who signed on Monday.
