Stenta named America East Conference men's soccer Player of the Week for second time this season
VESTAL, N.Y. -- For the second time this season, redshirt freshman Jason Stenta (Binghamton, N.Y.) has been named the America East Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. He earned the award by virtue of his two shutouts last week, which were instrumental in the Bearcats clinching their first-ever America East Conference regular season title.
Stenta made made four saves, including a pair of stops from close range in the final 15 minutes, in a 1-0 win at Albany last Wednesday. While he did not record a save in Saturday's scoreless tie against Vermont, Stenta organized the defense en route to Binghamton's sixth shutout of the year.
"Jason has grown tremendously since last year," head coach Paul Marco said. "He has gone from being out of the mix, to being a key reason to us winning the (America East Conference) regular season title."
Stenta finished the regular season with a 0.68 goals against average, including a microscopic 0.36 mark against America East Conference squads. Heading into the America East Conference Tournament, he has posted three consecutive shutouts and six for the season.
Binghamton (8-6-4) is the No. 1 seed heading into the America East Conference Tournament. The Bearcats have a first-round by and will host the winner of the Boston-Albany game (to be held on Oct. 28) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
