Binghamton men's soccer loses 1-0 at UMBC
BALTIMORE, MD.-- Sophomore back Chris Williams scored in the 56th minute, lifting host UMBC (6-6-2, 1-3-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (8-4-3, 3-2-0 AE) in an America East Conference men's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon at the UMBC Soccer Stadium. The loss snapped the Bearcats' two-game winning streak.
Binghamton outshot UMBC 9-3 in the opening 45 minutes, hitting the post twice. With the game still scoreless 11 minutes into the second half, the Retrievers took a free kick and after an initial volley in front of the goal, Williams knocked the ball into the net. It was his first goal of the season.
The Bearcats had a 14-9 advantage in shots for the game. Junior goalkeeper Jason Stenta and Retriever goalkeeper Steve King each recorded five saves.
Binghamton returns home to the Bearcats Sports Complex for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday against New Hampshire.
