men's soccer ties UMBC in AE conference opener
deadlocks game in 81st minute
VESTAL, N.Y.-- Sophomore forward Jake
Keegan scored for the second straight game as Binghamton
(2-4-3, 0-0-1 AE) managed a 1-1 tie at UMBC (4-3-1, 0-0-1 AE)
in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon. The
tie extended the Bearcats' unbeaten streak to five games (2-0-3),
their longest such streak since September 2008.
"We are defintely pleased that we came out with a point
even though we had chances for a win," head coach Paul Marco
said. "UMBC returned nearly all of their starters from last
year and even though we are very young, we didn't give up today."
After 75 minutes of scoreless action, UMBC broke through when
Pete Caringi finished off a cross. Levi Houapeu and Andrew Bulls
were credited with the assist.
Keegan, however, responded
with a eight-yard shot six minutes later that deadlocked the
game at 1-1. Junior midfielder Ryan
Walter got the lone assist.
UMBC had the overall edge in shots (17-15) while Binghamton had
the advantage in shot on goal (10-7).
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Chris
Hayen made six saves.
