VESTAL, N.Y.-- Junior midfielder Ryan
Walter scored his first goal of the season, leading Binghamton
(3-4-3, 1-0-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Vermont (6-4-3, 1-1-0 AE)
in an America East men's soccer game before 2,240 fans at the
Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday night. With the win, the
Bearcats are now 3-0-3 in their last matches.
Walter found himself in the right place at the right time in
the 14th minute of the game. Sophomore midfielder Adam
Whitehead fired a long blast that Vermont goalkeeper Xan
Rouselle was unable to handle. The ball came to Walter, who was
stationed at the mouth of the goal. He then knocked it into the
net.
"Tonight was a great win in a very competitive match,"
head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought our guys were great
tonight."
Rouselle made two impressive saves in the second half, keeping
the Catamounts within striking distance. At the other end, redshirt
freshman goalkeeper Chris
Hayen made three saves to record his third solo shutout of
the season.
Binghamton outshot Vermont 12-7 for the game.
The Bearcats host Hartford on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
NOTES: Walter and Rousseau were named the America East
Players of the Game ... the attendance was the third-largest
in the four year history of the Bearcats Sports Complex ... Walter
now has a goal and an assist in his last two games.
