men's soccer loses 3-0 at Vermont in AE opener
record first win over Binghamton since 2007
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Joe Losier
scored twice, leading Vermont (6-3-0, 1-0-0 AE) to a 2-0 win
over Binghamton (4-6-0, 0-1-0 AE) in an America East Conference
men's soccer game on Saturday at Centennial Field. The loss snapped
the Bearcats' three-game winning streak against the Catamounts,
dating back to 2008.
The Bearcats stayed in the game for the opening 45 minutes, as
the only goal they surrendered was a penalty kick by Losier in
the 18th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris
Hayen saved the other three shots that were on goal.
It was a pair of Catamount goals midway through the second half,
however, that sealed the game. In the 66th minute, Losier was
stationed in front of the goal when he received a pass from Brad
Cole. He then slid the ball into the net, giving the Catamounts
a 2-0 advantage.
Juan Peralta then ice the game with an rebound goal in the 77th
minute. Nick O'Neil, who fired the initial shot, was credited
with the assist.
"I thought both teams came out with a lot of energy but
after the penalty kick, we were the ones who were chasing the
game trying to get that tying goal," head coach Paul Marco
said. "That wore us out as the game went on."
Vermont held a 24-6 shot advantage for the game.
The Bearcats head to New Hampshire next Saturday for a 5 p.m.
