VESTAL, N.Y. -- Demanding schedules and increasing expectations can be daunting for any student-athlete, but the Binghamton Swimming and Diving teams continue to go the extra lap. The Bearcats continued their strong tradition of excellence in the classroom and were recognized for their efforts with a spot on the Division I All-America Spring 2008 list.

The Bearcat men were ranked 26th out of 139 NCAA DI Men's teams by the College Swimming Coaches of America Association (CSCAA) after recording a 3.103 GPA this spring. Binghamton not only improved on last years 39th ranking on the same list, but also sports a higher GPA.

The men's squad was bolstered by senior Brenno Varanda who was named to the conference's Swimming All-Academic Team in the spring of 2008 and is also a two-time member of the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. Varanda was also named the Swimming and Diving America East Scholar Athlete of the 2007-08 academic year.

The Binghamton women's swimming and diving team has been just as impressive in the classroom. The Bearcats finished 69th in the nation out of 190 DI teams with a 3.153 GPA for the spring semester according to the CSCAA.

The Bearcats next compete on Saturday, December sixth against Cornell starting at 12 p.m.
