Day 1 of America East Swimming & Diving Championships Complete
Binghamton men's swimmers in second place after first day of competition; women stand in fourth place
Bearcats pick up a combined four medals on first day of three-day meet

America East Day 1 Release

ORONO, Maine--The Binghamton University men's and women's swimming and diving teams won crowned four winners on the first day of competition at the America East Championship on Friday at Maine's Stanley M. Wallace Pool. The men's swimmers racked up 217 points and trailed only defending champion Boston University (238.5 points). Binghamton was in front of Stony Brook (194.5), New Hampshire (124), Maine (123) and Vermont (67).

On the women's side, the Bearcats tallied 156 points and trailed Northeastern (243.5), New Hampshire (226.5) and Boston University (173.5). Binghamton was ahead of Maine (115), Vermont (68) and Stony Brook (65.5).

Junior Chris McGuire (Essex, England) and senior Magnus Lofgren (Umea, Sweden) each won individual crowns on the men's side. McGuire took home the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.63 and Lofgren captured the 500 free in 4:39.15. Binghamton's 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Wade Rimbach (Essex, England), sophomore Robert Kaczynski (Tychy, Poland), senior Wael Dowidar (Alexandria, Egypt) and McGuire beat the field with a time of 3:29.92.

On the women's side, Binghamton's 400-yard medley relay quartet of sophomore Hannah Clegg (Hampshire, England), senior Mary Tennyson (Middletown, N.Y.), sophomore Huijue Cai (Shanghai, China) and sophomore Laura Linek (Canandaigua, N.Y.) touched in 3:52.02 to pace the field.

Day 2 of the three-day championship meet will begin with time trials at 11 a.m. Saturday in the following events: 400 individual medley, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 3-meter diving (women only). Finals in these events, as well as the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay will begin at 6 p.m. A complete recap of Saturday's action will be available by 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
