|Swimming & diving teams head to America East Championships|
Binghamton swimming and diving teams head to Orono, Maine this
weekend for the 13th annual America East Men's and Women's Swimming
and Diving Championships. The meet will start on Friday, February
14 and run through Sunday, February 16.
Binghamton University junior Yun Qu, who was named meet's Most Outstanding Swimmer after setting America East Championship records in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events is one of two returning champions on the women's side. Sophomore Hannah Clegg, who won the 100 backstroke last year, is also back for her second conference meet. The top newcomer this year on the women's side is sophomore Huijue Cai.
On the men's side junior Chris McGuire, who won the 200-yard butterfly, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 400-yard IM last year, also returns. Other potential top scorers for Binghamton this weekend should be senior Magnus Lofgren and sophomore Robert Kaczynski.
Trials begin Friday at 11 a.m. in the 500-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Individual Medley, 50-yard Freestyle, women's Three-Meter Diving, and men's One-Meter Diving. Championship, which begin at 6 p.m., will be decided in those events, as well as the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and the 400-yard Medley Relay.
Saturday's trials begin at 11 a.m. in the 400-yard Individual Medley, 100-yard Butterfly, 200-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Backstroke, and women's One-Meter Diving. Championships in those events, as well as the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 800-yard Freestyle Relay, will begin at 6 p.m.
Sunday's trials begin at 11 a.m. in the 200-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Breaststroke, 200-yard Butterfly, 1650-yard Freestyle, and men's Three-Meter Diving. Championships begin at 5:30 p.m. in those events and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
Binghamton, Boston University, University of Maine, New Hampshire, Northeastern (women only), Stony Brook University, and University of Vermont will vie for the Swimming and Diving Championships.
