Binghamton
swimming heads to America East Championships
VESTAL,
N.Y.--The Binghamton swimming & diving teams will head to
Baltimore, Md. this weekend for the 15th America East Swimming
& Diving Championships. The meet will be held at the UMBC
Natatorium at the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore
County for a three-day event, Feb. 18-20.
The men's team, which took second last season, is led by senior
Robert
Kaczynski (Tychy, Poland), who won two individual events
at last season's meet, including a conference-record performance
in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.62). He also won the 200 breaststroke
for the second year in a row (2:05.45).
"Robert is looking at breaking both his breaststroke records
this weekend," head coach Patrice Back said. "He will
swim great; he always does at the conference meet."
On the women's side, senior Huijue
Cai (Shanghai, China) is the top returner from a Binghamton
squad that tied for fifth at last season's meet. She took fourth
in the 50 free (24.41) in last season's meet.
"Huijue is ready and looking good as well," Back said.
"With this being her senior year she is looking to make
an impact and see how close she can come to an 'A' cut."
Northeastern is the defending champion and favorite in the women's
meet while UMBC is the favorite and defending champion in the
men's meet.
"The women have a tough conference. Our goals are to get
them back at night and to go after Vermont and Maine," Back
said. "The men are ready to race; they are going in with
a great attitude and ready to set some records."
