Men's Swimming and Diving recognized in the classroom
Senior Brenno Varanda named to the America East Swimming & Diving All-Academic team

Conference Release...

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Last fall, the men's swimming and diving team was awarded Team Academic All-American honors, and once again senior Brenno Varanda has led the way. Varanda highlighted the men's swimming and diving team's performance in the pool the entire year, and now he gains recognition for his leadership out of the water with conference All-Academic honors.

"This recognition for Brenno highlights our team's dedication to academic success. Last fall we were awarded with Team Academic All-American honors by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Our men's team GPA of 3.11 was 20th in the nation," said head coach Sean Clark. "Brenno has worked very hard to maintain excellence in and out of the pool and we are proud to have him represent us."

At the conference tournament this year, Varanda won the 200 breast in conference record time (2:00.63), placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.99, and fourth in the 200 IM (1:51.07) helping to lead the Bearcats to a third place finish.

All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time or are made up of 10 student-athletes for individual sports. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshman are not eligible for consideration.
