Men place second, women fifth at the Bucknell Invitational
Varanda highlighted weekend with a pair of individual wins

LEWISBURG, P.A. -- The Bearcats travelled to Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium to compete against James Madison (women), La Salle, The College of New Jersey, Bucknell and Towson on the 22nd and 23rd of November. The Bearcat men placed second out of five with 665.5 points, while the women finished fifth out of six with 262.

The Bearcat men kept up their traditional strong start with the men taking the 200 free relay (1:24.01) in stride. The men also closed out the first day of competition with a win the in 400 medley relay (3:26.36).

In the individual races, senior Brenno Varanda touched first in the 200 IM (1:52.33), just ahead of sophomore Jason Chen who claimed second with a time of (1:55.00). Varanda also placed first in the 400 IM (4:06.16), fifth in the 100 breast (58.52).

Freshman Nolan Slesnick touched second in the 1650 free (15:54.27), third in the 400 IM (4:06.16), and fourth in the 500 free (4:41.27).

Freshman Joe Perez-Rogers placed second in the 100 back with a time of 51.81. Senior Andrew Palumbo came in second in the 100 breast (57.72), and third in the 200 breast (2:09.42). While junior Philip Dzieniszewski placed third in the 100 fly (51.10), and fourth in the 100 breast (58.44).

On the boards senior Ryan Graham took first place in the three-meter (305.75), and second place on the one-meter (271.75). For the women, senior Kristin Maney finished first in scoring on the one-meter (271.00), and fourth on the three-meter (235.30).

Sophomore Amanda Ciccone led the women in the water, placing fifth in the 200 IM (2:09.23), fifth in the 100 fly (58.20), and sixth in the 50 free (24.64), and seventh place in the 100 free (53.27). Freshman Elizabeth Hawkins placed ninth in the 100 back (1:00.43), and 13th in the 50 free (25.15). The women also claimed sixth place in the 200 free relay.

Bucknell University won for the men while Towson University placed first in the invitational for the women.

The Bearcats next compete on Saturday, December sixth against Cornell starting at 12 p.m.
