Naglieri (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Varanda earns America East Swimmer of the Week honors Bearcat junior has a team-high 12 individual wins on the season Conference release VESTAL, N.Y. -- Junior swimming standout Brenno Varanda (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the America East Swimmer of the Week for his efforts leading the Bearcat men against a strong Cornell program on Saturday afternoon. Varanda recorded a pair of individual wins to pace the men's efforts. Varanda won the 200-IM in 1:57.54 and the 200-Breast in 2:09.00 and was runner-up in the 400-IM in 4:07.98. He now has a Bearcat-high 12 individual victories on the season. Additionally, Varanda owns the fastest times in the conference in both the 400-IM (4:03.16) and the 200-Breast (2:06.48) events. "Brenno was our standout swimmer," said Clark. "He had a tough day after a tough week and he responded like a champion. He posted some great times for a dual meet." The Bearcats wrap up the 2007 portion of their schedule when Niagara visits the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center for a dual meet on Saturday, December 8 at 1 p.m. |
