Bearcats swept by Colgate in final home meet
VESTAL, N.Y.--The visiting Red Raiders won eight of the 13 events on both sides, and swept the Binghamton men's and women's swim teams Saturday afternoon at West Gym Pool. On Senior Day at Binghamton, the men's team (3-8) was defeated 139-101, while the women's team (4-6) fell 145.5-96.5.
On the men's side, senior Chris McGuire (Essex, England) captured the 200 IM and 500 free events, and also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team. He touched in 1:57.89 in the 200 IM, and won the 500 free with a time of 4:47.01. The 200 medley relay team, which also included freshman Trevor Stone (Windsor, N.Y.), junior Robert Kaczynski (Tychy, Poland) and sophomore Dan Holmberg (Oxford, N.Y.), recorded a winning time of 1:38.43. Holmberg was the Bearcats only other individual winner, as he won the 100 fly in a time of 53.37.
For the women, senior Yun Qu (Hangzhou, China) was the lone double winner. She took first in the 100 fly (56.81) and 500 free (5:15.25). Junior Laura Linek (Canandaigua, N.Y.) won the 50 free with a time of 24.96. Qu and Linek both swam legs on the winning 400 free relay team, which touched first with a time of 3:37.80 and also included senior Colleen McGrath (Copiague, N.Y.) and junior Huijue Cai (Shanghai, China).
Next Saturday, both Binghamton teams travel to Stony Brook at 1 p.m. for the final dual meet of the season.
