|Bearcats split at Drexel; Women win 123-102, men fall 125.5-115.5|
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - On their way back from a training trip to Florida, Binghamton's swimming and diving teams stopped at Drexel and split a dual meet Wednesday afternoon. The BU women (8-2) posted a 123-102 victory, while the men (6-4) were defeated by the host Dragons 125.5-115.5.
On the women's side, BU won the first nine events before swimming exhibition to close out the meet. Junior Yun Qu (Hangzhou, China) set a Drexel pool record in winning the 200 fly (2:02.35), and also captured the 1000 free (10:56.89). Sophomore Hannah Clegg (Hampshire, England) also established a pool record in the 200 backstroke, touching first in 2:08.36 - more than 10 seconds faster than the field. Clegg and Qu also swam legs on BU's winning 400 medley relay team.
Sophomore Huijue Cai (Shanghai, China) won both the 200 IM (2:14.78) and the 500 free (5:18.76). Sophomore Laura Linek (Canandaigua, N.Y.) also won twice. She captured the 100 free (54.57) and the 200 free (1:58.00).
The men won six individual events but were edged by the Dragons. Sophomore Robert Kaczynski (Tychy, Poland), junior Chris McGuire (Essex, England) and senior Magnus Lofgren (Umea, Sweden) each won twice. Kaczynski captured the 200 IM (1:57.47) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.72), McGuire took the 200 free (1:46.26) and 100 free (48.11), and Lofgren won the 1000 free (10:04.05) and 500 free (4:50.56). Kaczynski also swam a leg on BU's victorious 400 medley relay.
Both teams are off until dual meets at St. Bonaventure on January 25.
