Binghamton competes in Day Two of ECAC Championships
Binghamton men's swimmers in sixth place after second day of competition; women stand in tenth

PITTSBURGH, Pa.--Binghamton University junior David Holmes (Doncaster, England) swam the first leg of the 800 free relay in, 1:37.34 breaking the record of teammate Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey), who set the school mark at 1:37.59 last weekend at the conference championship. The time posted by Holmes also meets the NCAA "B" provisional mark of 1:38.46, as members of the Binghamton men's and women's swim teams competed in the second day of competition at the ECAC Championship on Saturday. The meet is being hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Trees Pool. A full day of competition is on the slate for Sunday, with competition starting at 10 a.m.
On Saturday, the men scored an additional 83 points to bump their total to 237 points and are in sixth place, Johns Hopkins leads the men's side with 349 points. Individually leading the way on day two for the Bearcats was Holmes who won the 100 fly in 49.17, more than a second ahead of the next swimmer. Behind Holmes in the event was classmate Brian Koizim (White Plains, N.Y.) touching in 50.84 for sixth place. Freshman Andrew Palumbo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished 13th (1:00.85) in the 100 breast.
On the women's side, senior Nicole Fulgieri (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) touched in 1:02.98 for 12th place in the 100 back. In the 100 fly, senior Eden Payabyab (College Point, N.Y.) tied for 12th with a time of 1:00.22, while senior Christine Carroll (Washingtonville, N.Y.) finished 14th in the 100 breast (1:10.39). The women stand in tenth place with 86.5 points, Marist College leads the women's side with 400.5 points.
