VESTAL, N.Y. -- After his record-setting performance on the 1-meter board over the weekend, junior diver Ryan Graham (Vestal, N.Y.) has been named the America East Diver of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Graham broke a 17-year old school record in the 1-meter dive to become the first Bearcat to qualify for NCAA Zones highlighting the Binghamton men's swimming and diving squad to a 145-96 victory over visiting Drexel on Saturday afternoon.
The Vestal, N.Y. native broke the previous school record of 279.70 set in 1990 with a six-dive score of 318.07. His score surpassed the NCAA Zones qualifying score on the 1-meter which stands at 290 and will advance to the NCAA competition in March.
"Ryan has been working really hard and throwing out some new dives," said head coach Sean Clark. "Things are starting to look really good for him."
Against Buffalo, Graham captured runner-up honors with strong showings in both the 1- and 3-meter events, totaling 270.53 and 275.78 points, respectively.
The Bearcat men have won three consecutive dual meets headed into Wednesday's tri-meet at Lafayette against the host Leopards and America East opponent Stony Brook. The meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
