Binghamton women's swimming & diving team inks Croatian Junior National Standout
VESTAL, N.Y.-- The Binghamton women's swimming & diving team has announced the signing of Aleksandra Grubic (Split, Croatia). She will join the Bearcats for her freshman season this coming fall and will focus on the freestyle events.
Grubic has been a Junior Croatian Champion and has held a couple Croatian Junior National records as a relay member. In 2001 she participated in the European Youth Olympic Games in Murcia, Spain. She qualified for the B finals in the 100 free as well as in the 400 free relay. Grubic also went to Glasgow, Scotland for the European Junior Championships in 2003 and, for the first time ever for the Croatian women, qualified for finals and placed 7th in the 400 free relay.
"Aleksandra is going to be a phenomenal sprinter for Binghamton and one of the top sprinters in the America East Conference," head coach Patrice Back said. "She will be an integral part of our relays and fills the hole created when we graduated Huijue Cai this year. Her participation in numerous Croatian National as well as International swim meets has given her the exposure and experience needed to prepare her for our challenging schedule and Conference. We are thrilled to welcome Aleksandra to a growing women's team that has a lot of heart and a great work ethic."
