Senior David Holmes earns America East and ECAC Swimmer of the Week honors
America East Release
VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton University senior David Holmes (Doncaster, England) has been named both the America East's and ECAC's Men's Swimmer of the Week for January 14-21. This marks the third time this season and the 11th in his career that Holmes has received the AE's top weekly accolade.
Holmes was a perfect 5-for-5 in individual events lifting the Bearcats to a 3-0 mark with wins over Lafayette, St. Bonaventure and conference foe Stony Brook.
In the final home meet of his collegiate career, Holmes claimed gold in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a school and pool record time of 9:27.73 and the 50-yard freestyle event in 21.30 to lead BU's double-dual meet victory over the Seawolves and Leopards. His 1,000 finish currently ranks among the nation's 30 fastest times.
Over the weekend, Holmes' dominance continued as he set a pair of pool records against a very strong St. Bonaventure program, taking home top honors in both the 200 fly (1:52.42) and 500 free (1:52.42). He also won the 1,000 free clocking in at 9:53.79.
"We've asked a lot from David in the last two meets," said head coach Sean Clark. "He is not a distance swimmer, but he CAN do it. He knew what the team needed from him and he filled the role admirably."
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, January 27, when they head to Hamilton, N.Y. for double-dual action versus Colgate and UMASS.
