Binghamton's Holmes and Graham earn America East honors
America East Conference Release
VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton University junior David Holmes (Doncaster, England) and freshman Ryan Graham (Vestal, N.Y.) have been named the America East Men's Swimming Performer and Diver of the Week respectively for Jan. 24 - Jan. 30. This is the third consecutive week and sixth week of the season that Holmes has received this honor and the eighth time in his collegiate career. This marks the second time in Graham's career he has received this honor.
Holmes won two individual events and was part of a pair of relays that were victorious against Colgate. Holmes won the 200-fly in 1:58.39, more than seven seconds faster than his next competitor (2:05.54). In the 200-IM, he touched in 1:55.86 for the victory. In the 400-free relay, Holmes led the team that was triumphant in 3:09.66, barely three tenths of a second behind the Binghamton pool record (3:09.35) set in 2002 by a Cornell relay team. Holmes also swam the third leg of the 400-medley relay that won in 3:33.59.
"David's wins contributed to a strong lead over Colgate and rounded out a great meet for the team," head coach Patrice Back said. "We are fortunate to be able to count on our swimmers and divers to dig deep for the team at every meet."
Graham swept the one- and three-meter board diving events against Colgate. He won the one-meter dive with a score of 271.50, more than 35 points better than his closest foe. In the three-meter dive he won the event with a score of 263.10, almost 30 points better than his next competitor.
Ryan's diving has stepped up over the last couple weeks and he's working to develop a strong list for Championships," Back said. "It's great to see his hard work recognized with this award."
The Bearcats will travel to Stony Brook on Saturday at 2 p.m.
