VESTAL, N.Y. -- Freshman swimmer
Brittany Detlef (Rochester, N.Y.) won a pair of events and swam on a winning relay team leading the Binghamton men’s and women’s swimming squads to a dual meet sweep over Niagara on Saturday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center.

Binghamton's women won 11 of 16 events en route to a 174-118 victory, while the men recorded a 160-131 victory over the visiting Purple Eagles. The dual meet wins were the first of the season for both BU squads.

"It was a great way to end the semester" said head swim coach Sean Clark. "Both the men and women were on top of their game and really swam great. I am pleased to get that first victory under our belts on both sides. It is a well-deserved celebration headed into finals week."

Detlef won the 100-fly in 1:00.28 and the 200-fly 2:13.70, and swam the third leg of BU's meet-opening 200-medley relay victory.

Fellow freshman Kelsey Anderson (Penfield, N.Y.) was also a double-event winner for the women. Anderson took the 1,000-free in 11:02.65 and the 500-free in 5:26.94. She now has four individual victories on the season.

Divers Kristin Maney (New Paltz, N.Y.) and Kate Hassfurter (Horseheads, N.Y.) led a BU sweep on the boards, taking the one-meter event (277.03) and the three-meter event (235.13), respectively.

On the men's side, the Bearcats captured 11 of the 16 events with nine different Bearcats recording individual victories on the meet.

Reigning America East Swimmer of the Week, junior Brenno Varanda (St. Petersburg, Fla.), touched first in the 200-back in 1:59.45 for his team-high 13th victory of the season.

Senior Bryan Kwiatkowski (Garnerville, N.Y.), juniors
