|Women sweep tri-meet with Lafayette and Delaware; Men record split|
The Binghamton women's swimming team recorded a sweep in a tri-meet on Wednesday at West Gym Pool while the men gained a split. The women swept Lafayette (135-98) and Delaware (117-113). The men beat Delaware 135-78 but lost to Lafayette 120-99. Delaware's women's team beat Lafayette 164-69 while the Lafayette men's team beat Delaware 147-58.
"Today was the start of our drive toward the championship meets," Binghamton head coach Benji DeMotte said. "A meet like this against tough competition bodes very well for us. We had a lot of people swim faster than we expected.
On the women's side, sophomore Huijue Cai (Shanghai, China) hit the NCAA "B" cut by swimming the 100 fly in 55.38 seconds. She easily eclipsed the cut time of 55.76 (note: Cai swam the butterfly in the 100 freestyle). On the men's side, junior Chris McGuire (Essex, England) won two individual events. McGuire captured the 200 fly in 1:53.20 and the 200 free in 1:44.13.
