Bearcats split dual meet with New Hampshire
VESTAL, N.Y.--Sophomore David Holmes (Doncaster, England) swam the 100 fly in 51.65 breaking the pool record of 51.90 set by Chris McGuire in 2003. Freshman Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey) also won two individual events as the Binghamton swimming and diving teams split a dual meet against America East foe New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The men (5-1) won 120-86 while the women (1-6) lost 82-154.
"It was a lot of fun for the team. We were doing the shorter events," head coach Patrice Back said. "Some new records and best mid-season times were set. I am proud of David (Holmes) breaking the 100 fly pool record. It was the perfrect time for him to do this. He replaced the record of the fastest flyer in the conference last year. This is a great measure to look at."
Holmes also won the 200 free (1:44.88). Tayla was victorious with wins in the 50 free (21.42) and the 100 free (47.28). Junior Wade Rimbach (Essex, England) was triumphant in the 200 IM (2:00.95). Also with a win for the men was sophomore Brian Koizim (White Plains, N.Y.) in the 100 back (54.28).
The men's team of Holmes, K.C. Kozlowski (St. James, N.Y.), Trevor Stone (Windsor, N.Y.) and Tayla won the 200 free relay in 1:29.09. Koizim, Dylan Hobe (New Windsor, N.Y.), Stone and Michael Britvan (Pleasantville, N.Y.) took first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.10.
On the women's side senior Huijue Cai (Shanghai, China) won the 100 fly in 59.15 and junior Christine Carroll (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was triumphant in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.94).
The women's relay team of Nicole Sweeney (Commack, N.Y.), Bridget Dormer (Northport, N.Y.), Lauren Katz (Little Neck, N.Y.) and Nicole Fulgieri (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:49.96.
New Hampshire swimmers broke three pool records on the day. Brittany Daly swam the 1000 free in 10:30.67, breaking the pool record of 10:34.58 set in 2003 by Delaware. Shannon Daly swam the 500 free in 5:04.37, breaking her own pool record set two years ago (5:05.59).
