The Binghamton men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center for the first of eight home meets during the 2007-08 season as they host conference opponent Boston University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Terriers

The Terriers have gotten off to a strong start this season. Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams won against UMASS on Saturday October 13. The women's squad defeated UMass 143-100, while the men's team took a 124-119 victory. The men followed that up with a 165-104 victory over Colgate this past Saturday to start the season 2-0, while the women dropped a 148-146 decision to the Lady Raiders to fall to 1-1.

On the women's side, BU returns senior Sam Lupinetti, junior Christina Ruggiero and school-record holder Eve Kinsella from a team that finished with a second-place finish at the America East championships. For the men, the Terriers are led by senior Gordon Allan and sophomores Arik Seiler and John Passaro.

Bearcats open season at Western New York Invitational
Junior Brenno Varanda captured a pair of individual events to highlight the men's efforts in the 2007-08 season opener. Varanda touched first in the 200 breast and 400 IM, while claiming runner-up honors in the 500 free. Junior Andrew Palumbo and freshmen Jason Chen and Kevin Kearney each posted individual victories.

On the women's side, BU's incoming freshman class paid immediate dividends. Freshmen Lyndsi Worthington, Nicole Sheridan, Kelsey Anderson, and Danielle Gallo each delivered strong efforts in their Bearcat debuts.

Sophomores Allyce Brand and Brittany Detlef were equally as impressive. Brand took third in the 50 free; while Detlef was third in the 200 fly.

Reviewing 06-07/Previewing 07-08
With first-year head coach Sean Clark at the helm, the men's and swimming and diving team enjoyed a historic 2006-07 season. The men's team finished with 6-3 dual meet record, runner-up honors at the America East Championship and sent its first male swimmer in school and conference history to the NCAA Division I Championships. The men face the tall task of replacing its much-heralded 2007 senior class, but with a strong cast of returnees and a number of impact newcomers this year's squad is prepared to fill the void and eager to leave its own mark on the program. The Bearcat women earned a seventh-place finish at the America East Championships and posted a pair of dual meet victories, highlighted by a solid win over conference rival Stony Brook. Youth is the name of the game for this year's women's squad which features 19 underclassmen, including nine freshmen and 10 sophomores.

Preseason Polls Announced
The Binghamton men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been picked to finish second and sixth, respectively, at the 2008 America East Swimming and Diving Championships, according to a poll by the league's head coaches, the conference announced Tuesday. UMBC was chosen to repeat as conference champions on both the men's and women's sides.
