BU men's tennis will begin defense of its America East title as No. 2 seed

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Three-time defending America East men's tennis champion Binghamton will begin its quest for a four-peat as the No. 2 seed, the school learned Wednesday afternoon. Head coach Michael Starke's Bearcats (15-6) will open play with a semifinal match Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven. Stony Brook received the No. 1 seed. The Seawolves, who have lost to Binghamton in each of the last three title matches, earned the top seed with a 5-2 dual match victory over BU on April 10.

Binghamton will play the winner of a first-round match between No. 3 UMBC and No. 6 Hartford, which will be contested Friday morning. Earlier in the spring, BU toppled Hartford 7-0 and UMBC 5-2.

The other first-round match pits No. 4 Boston University against No. 5 New Hampshire. That winner will face Stony Brook in Saturday's other semifinal. The two semifinal winners will square off for the conference title and automatic NCAA tournament berth at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The America East All-Conference teams will be announced Thursday evening.
