NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fourth-seeded Binghamton (9-11) lost to top-seeded UMBC 4-2 in the America East Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon at the Connecticut Tennis Center. The Bearcats then gained a measure of revenge against second-seeded Boston University in the third-place match, winning 4-1.
Junior Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.,) and freshman Pierre Clavel (Lyon, France) posted the Bearcats' lone wins against UMBC. Dobrin rolled to a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles and Clavel won for the second straight day.
In the consolation match against Boston, the Bearcats surrendered the doubles point before storming back to take the first four singles matches off the court.
Dobrin won again in straight sets, completing his season with a 19-7 record.
The Terriers had defeated the Bearcats 4-3 back on April 1 in Boston.
