Immediate Release: April 30, 2004 NEW HAVEN, Conn. - At the America East Men's Tennis Championship, defending champion and number three seed Binghamton (14-7) advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 shutout of #6 Vermont Friday afternoon at the Connecticut Tennis Center. The Bearcats captured the doubles point with wins at the second and third spots, and then clinched the match as the first three singles contests were complete. The remaining matches were suspended once Binghamton had clinched the team victory. With the win, BU moves into Saturday's noon semifinal against #2 UMBC. The Retrievers, who toppled Binghamton 5-2 back on March 13, advanced with a 4-0 win over #7 New Hampshire. Freshman singles player Dan Hanegby (Herzeliya, Israel) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top spot. The victory was Hanegby's 13th straight, lifting his overall mark to 30-5 this year. Sophomore Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles, and junior Juan Garcia (Lima, Peru) earned a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at sixth singles. O'Connor is 23-8 overall, while Garcia, who overcame a 4-0 deficit in the second set, won for the 11th straight match. He is 24-7 overall, 16-4 in duals. DOUBLES
