LEWISBURG, Pa. - Despite playing one man short and forfeiting a pair of matches, Binghamton (7-10) gutted out a 4-3 win over host Bucknell (9-12) Thursday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The Bearcats dropped the doubles point before rallying to win four of the five contested singles matches.
Trailing 3-1 and down a set in all three matches left to play, the Bearcats scored three-set wins at fifth, second and fourth singles to capture the match. Freshman Reina Kohtake (Yokohama, Japan) began the comeback with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles. Junior Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) also rallied after dropping the opening set 6-1. He stormed past Ryan Sandburg 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. With the team score tied at 3-3, junior Jon Bonnet (Oceanside, N.Y.) staged a comeback from one set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4.
Binghamton heads to the America East Championship on April 26-29 in New Haven, Conn. The Bearcats are the defending conference champions.
