VESTAL, N.Y.--Freshman Dan Hanegby (Herezeliya, Israel) and sophomore Richemn Mourad (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Murray State University) were double winners at the top two spots in the lineup, and Binghamton (3-1) defeated visiting Buffalo (1-1) 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the West Gym Courts.
Hanegby secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory at first singles, while Mourad gutted out a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) victory at the second spot. Hanegby also teamed with senior Steve Spencer (Plantation, Fla./Nova) for an 8-3 win at first doubles. Mourad was a 9-8 (7-2) winnver at second doubles, teaming with sophomore Edwin Gerard (Bayside, N.Y./Professional Children's School).
Sophomore Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep) fought through leg cramps for a 6-0, 5-7, 10-6 win at fifth singles and junior Juan Garcia (Lima, Peru/Lees-McRae College) was a 7-6 (2), 1-6, 10-0 winner at sixth singles.
"It's always nice to beat Buffalo," O'Connor said. "They aren't a conference opponent but it always gives you pride to beat another New York team."
Binghamton concludes the fall season next weekend when members of the team will be in action at the ITA Regional. This year's event is being hosted by Cornell University.
