Binghamton men's tennis upends Colgate 5-2 at Binghamton Tennis Center
Bearcats post first win over Red Raiders since 1996

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's tennis team (7-3) swept the doubles matches and captured four of six singles contests to post a 5-2 win over Colgate (3-10) Sunday night at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The win snapped a six-match losing streak to the Red Raiders.

"I felt we played a good match for the first time all year," head coach Michael Starke said. "We haven't been playing up to our potential, but today is the first step in the right direction. With so many freshmen, it takes time. But tonight is how we should be playing."

In the highlight match, sophomore No. 1 Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) rolled to a surprisingly-easy 6-3, 6-3 win over Colgate's top player, Reed Hagmann. Hanegby, 18-4 on the season, was No. 14 in the regional rankings after the fall, while Hagmann was up at No. 5.

"I keep trying find to new superlatives to describe Dan," Starke said. "He can hit it hard and deep off both sides, and hits it cross court or down the line on the forehand and backhand. He is lethal. Dan is playing top-8 region tennis right now."

Freshman No. 3 Alex Dobrin (Flushing) improved to 8-2 in duals with a straight-set win.

The Bearcats next play at St. Bonaventure on Friday.
