BU men's tennis edged by Columbia 4-3

MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- Binghamton University men's tennis (0-2) had a strong showing against Ivy League member Columbia Saturday afternoon, losing 4-3 at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.

The match was ultimately decided by just three points in doubles. The host Lions won 9-8 at third doubles (7-4 in tiebreak) to earn the pivotal doubles point before the teams split the six singles matches.

Sophomore Moshe Levy (Ra'ananna, Israel) picked up his second straight win at No. 3 singles, and senior Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) and junior Gregoire Berner (Troinex, Switzerland) scored victories at Nos. 4 and 5 respectively.

"It was a great effort by our guys," head coach Adam Cohen said. " Last year we walked out of this building having lost 7-0 so our program is moving in the right direction. This shows our guys that when we come ready to play, we'll be a tough opponent for anyone."

Binghamton next faces Dartmouth on February 3.
