BU men's tennis rallies from 3-1 down, knocks off Cornell 4-3

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Binghamton University men's tennis (6-6) rallied from a 3-1 hole to seize a 4-3 victory over Ivy League member Cornell (3-4) Friday at the Reis Tennis Center. The win snapped a 19-match losing streak to the Big Red. The Bearcats dropped the doubles point before storming back to win four of the six singles contests and post their first win over Cornell since the 1976-77 season.

Senior Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) clinched the dramatic victory with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win at first singles. Also winning for the Bearcats were freshman Sven Vloedgraven (Lochem, Netherlands) at No. 3, junior Sebastian Dietz (Leun, Germany) at No. 4 and freshman Arnav Jain (Mumbai, India) at No. 6. Jain improved to 7-1 in duals and Vloedgraven raised his record to 7-3 in duals.

"It was nice to see Faisal (Mohamed) clinch the win to beat Cornell in his last match against an Ivy League opponent," head coach Adam Cohen said. "I'm proud of the way we fought back and beat a good opponent."

Mohamed and Dietz also teamed for an 8-7 (3) win at first doubles.

Binghamton takes on St. John's at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
