ITHACA, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's tennis sophomore Alexandre Haggai captured the "B" singles flight to highlight the Bearcats' action at the Cornell Fall Indoor Invitational, played over the weekend at the Reis Tennis Center.
Haggai won four matches, capped by a 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 triumph over Nicholas Pisecky of Marist in the final. Haggai fought off five match points in the second set before rolling through the third set. In the semifinals, he defeated Mirza Klis of Cornell, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
"It was a nice effort from Alex, winning four good matches," head coach Adam Cohen said.
Junior Evan Algier was runnerup in the "D" singles flight. He won two matches before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Matt Himmelsbach of Marist in the final.
In doubles, the tandem of Bastian Bornkessel and Ruben Devos won two matches to reach the semifinals of the top flight. Sophomore Gilbert Wong and junior Andreas Danielsson also won twice to reach the semifinals of the second doubles flight.
The Bearcats have completed their fall season as a team. Top singles player Sven Vloedgraven will travel to Yale for the ITA National Indoor Championship on November 5-8.
