VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's tennis players Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Sebastian Dietz (Leun, Germany) have earned regional rankings after strong fall seasons. Mohamed, a senior, is ranked No. 20 in the ITA Northeast Region, and Dietz, a junior, is 28th. It is the first time in BU's Division I tenure that two players have been regionally ranked.
Mohamed went 8-3 in the fall season, advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Northeast Regional. He also captured a singles flight at the Army Invitational. Mohamed owns a singles win against the 15th-ranked player in the region - Bogdan Borta of Columbia.
Dietz went 9-6 in the fall. He was a singles finalist at the season-opening Virginia Invitational and also reached the semifinals at the Virginia State Open.
"I'm excited to see two of our guys ranked inside the top 30 in the ITA Northeast Regional," head coach Adam Cohen said. "This region of the ITA is dominated by Penn State and the Ivy institutions so for Binghamton University to have the same amount or more players ranked in the ITA singles regional rankings than Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, U Penn, and Yale means were moving in the right direction."
Binghamton returns to action at the Army Invitational on January 19-20.
