Tournament Brackets
Day 2 Release

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) was eliminated Sunday in the singles round of 32 at the ITA Northeast Regional, played at the the Burleson/Burrows Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. Hanegby, the No. 5 seed, lost 7-6, 6-3 to Eric Thomas of Brown, who was seeded in the 17-32 range. Later Sunday afternoon, Hanegby and junior Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) were defeated by Thomas and his Brown teammate Saurabh Kohli, 8-6, in the round of 16.

"Dan's opponent played a very intelligent match, and Dan played tight," head coach Michael Starke said of the singles contest. "At this point of the tournament, you have to play good tennis to advance."

Hanegby finished the fall season with an 8-2 record.

In doubles, Hanegby and O'Connor trailed 5-2 and despite stepping up their play midway through the set, couldn't overcome the initial deficit.

"Dan and Brian fought back great," Starke said. "They had break points every game but couldn't convert. They just got going too late. It was a good doubles match."

The ITA event marks the conclusion of the fall season for the Bearcats, who return to the courts for an indoor match, February 4 at Columbia.
