Senior Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) won both his singles and doubles match and the Bearcats captured the key doubles point with wins at the first and second slots. The teams split the six singles matches with the Bearcats earning victories at Nos. 3, 5 and 6.
O'Connor dropped just two games in his commanding singles win over Jean-Francois Robitaille. The victory raised his fall record to 8-2. O'Connor is 72-29 in his stellar four-year career. Earlier, he teamed with sophomore Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
"Brian had a breakout day today," head coach Michael Starke said. "He dominated the doubles match and came up huge in singles."
Sophomores Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook) and Mark Piro (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored lopsided wins at Nos. 5 and 6 respectively. Mohamed remained unbeaten at the ECAC Championship with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matt Jacobson. He improved to 7-3 this fall. Piro was equally strong in his 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Juan Carlos Cotto. He is 7-2 overall.
Binghamton closes out the ECAC Championship with a ninth-place match against No. 9 American Sunday.
