ITA Release

VESTAL, N.Y. -- The reigning America East champion Binghamton men's tennis team also performed to perfection in the classroom. The Bearcats were awarded All-Academic status by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2008-09 year.

The ITA honored programs that maintained a 3.2 or higher GPA and the Bearcats finished their championship season with a lofty 3.37 team mark. It is the second straight season head coach Adam Cohen's squad has won the conference title and earned national academic honors.

In addition, BU had a conference-high three individuals named Scholar-Athlete by the ITA. Sophomores Sven Vloedgraven and Andreas Danielsson and freshman Gilbert Wong were honored for having GPAs higher than 3.5.

Vloedgraven, the America East Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete for tennis, has produced a 3.88 GPA in accounting. Danielsson holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA in business and Wong owns a 3.58 GPA in accounting.

The trio helped the Bearcats to the program's fifth conference title in the last seven years in 2009. They join the full roster of returning players for BU's upcoming 2009-10 season.
